How to get to Mérida

Mérida, the capital of Yucatán, is easily accessible by plane, bus, or car. The main airport is Manuel Crescencio Rejón International Airport (MID), located about 15–25 minutes from downtown.

By plane

  • Direct flights to Mérida (MID) are available from several hubs (especially from the U.S.).
  • From Europe / international travelers: the most common connections are via Mexico City (MEX) or Cancún (CUN).
Tip: If you arrive in Cancún, you can reach Mérida comfortably by ADO bus in ~4 hours.

From Cancún by bus

  • Company: ADO (very frequent departures)
  • Typical duration: ~4h (depending on the service)
  • Arrival: ADO terminal in Mérida (city center / close to downtown)

From Cancún by car

  • Travel time: ~3.5–4h
  • Toll highway available (recommended for comfort)

Local transportation in Mérida

The historic center is very walkable, and ride options are widely available.

  • UBER or DiDi service (easy and reliable)
  • Local taxis (taxímetro)
  • Local buses “Va y Ven” (requires a bus card) — cost approx.: 0.70 USD
Note: For “Va y Ven”, you usually need a rechargeable card. If you plan to use buses, buy the card early and keep small cash for convenience.
